VP Harris Pushes Green Cards For Afghans Despite Terrorist Plot Involving Afghan Refugee

Vice President Kamala Harris has vowed to secure green cards for tens of thousands of Afghan refugees resettled in the US, despite widespread criticism over vetting failures. This pledge follows the recent arrest of Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, an Afghan national accused of planning an ISIS-inspired Election Day attack.

Harris’ plan involves passing a Senate bill that would grant permanent residency to Afghans brought to the US in 2021.

This initiative has sparked backlash, especially after multiple reports revealed that some Afghan refugees were not properly vetted before entering the country. Tawhedi, who arrived as part of the Biden-Harris administration’s Afghan evacuation, is one of those now accused of having terrorist ties.

Republican lawmakers, including Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), have voiced concerns about the administration’s failure to ensure the safety of Americans. They pointed to whistleblower claims that 400 Afghans listed as “potential threats” were resettled in American communities.

The Biden-Harris administration has defended its approach, arguing that the Afghan refugees deserve a chance to rebuild their lives in the US. However, the arrest of Tawhedi has fueled skepticism, particularly among conservatives, who question the administration’s commitment to national security.
