On September 15, 2024, President Donald Trump survived a second assassination attempt at Trump International Golf Club. Ryan Routh, 58, from Hawaii, was apprehended after attempting to attack Trump with an AK-47 rifle and filming equipment.
According to Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, Routh was situated between 300 and 500 yards from President Trump when Secret Service agents intervened. The Secret Service’s swift action prevented any injury to the president.
Bradshaw criticized the golf course’s security, highlighting the lack of adequate protection for someone of President Trump’s status. “If Trump were the sitting president, the entire golf course would have been surrounded,” Bradshaw said.
President Trump assured his supporters with a statement: “I am SAFE AND WELL! Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER!” Vice President Kamala Harris also voiced relief, asserting, “Violence has no place in America.”
Routh’s previous contributions to Democratic candidates like Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) show his left-leaning mindset.
Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), Trump’s running mate, expressed relief over the President’s safety. This attack follows a similar incident in July, indicating ongoing threats to President Trump.
The FBI is investigating the incident, and heightened security measures are expected for future Trump events. The public is advised to avoid the golf course area as the investigation unfolds.
