President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race has sparked significant reactions, particularly from former President Donald Trump. Biden, citing the need to focus on his current duties, “decided” to step down amid mounting pressure from Democratic leaders and concerns about his ability to compete against GOP nominee Donald Trump.
Bill and Hillary Clinton quickly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. They issued a joint statement urging Democrats to rally behind Harris to secure a victory in the upcoming election. They also praised Biden for his leadership, stating, “We honor Biden for all he has accomplished, standing up for America time and again, with his North Star always being what’s best for the country.”
Trump, however, used the opportunity to criticize Biden’s many dangerous failures. On Truth Social, he wrote, “Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve – And never was!” He accused Biden of attaining the presidency through deceit and media manipulation, further blaming him for border security issues leading to increased crime and terrorist threats.
In a CNN interview, Trump labeled Biden the “single worst president by far in the history of our country,” underscoring his belief that Biden’s presidency has been disastrous. Trump promised his supporters that he would address these issues if re-elected, emphasizing his commitment to “Make America Great Again.”
With Harris now at the forefront of the Democratic campaign, the 2024 election is set to be highly contentious. The Clintons’ endorsement highlights a push for party unity, while Trump’s criticisms set the stage for a fierce political battle.
