Donald Trump Jr. has issued a cautionary message to Republicans, urging them not to become complacent regarding former President Donald Trump’s chances in the upcoming 2024 election. Speaking to Axios from Milwaukee, the site of this year’s Republican National Convention, Trump Jr. emphasized the need for constant vigilance and effort.
“People are like, ‘Oh, after Saturday it’s over,'” Trump Jr. said, referencing the recent failed assassination attempt on his father during a rally in Pennsylvania. He stressed, “Nothing is over,” and called on campaign members to “keep our foot on the gas every second of the day” until the election in November.
Trump Jr. claimed that the opposition would go to any lengths to defeat his father, stating, “There’s no level the other side won’t go. There’s no nonsense they won’t play.” He expressed concerns that any potential loss in the election could be attributed to “cheating” by Democrats.
Highlighting the importance of downballot races, Trump Jr. noted that gaining control of the Senate, in addition to maintaining the GOP majority in the House, is crucial. “I think you have to win across the board and not just even congressional or Senate races. I mean, I want to win legislatures. I want to win school boards,” he said.
Commenting on Rupert Murdoch’s influence among conservatives, Trump Jr. remarked that Murdoch’s power “is not what it used to be.” He added, “There was a time where if you wanted to survive in the Republican Party, you had to bend the knee to him or to others. I don’t think that’s the case anymore.”
As the campaign season intensifies, Trump Jr.’s message underscores the GOP’s strategy of maintaining momentum and focusing on both national and local races to secure comprehensive victories in the upcoming election.
