Texas Delegate Robbed At Gunpoint In Crime-Ridden Chicago During Democratic Convention

In yet another reminder of Chicago’s ongoing crime problem, a Texas delegate attending the Democratic National Convention (DNC) was robbed at gunpoint early Wednesday morning in downtown Chicago. The delegate was walking with a friend at around 2 a.m. when two masked men in a dark blue Range Rover approached. Armed with a semi-automatic handgun, the robbers threatened to shoot unless the victims handed over their belongings.

After robbing the delegate, the suspects crossed the street and robbed two more individuals before fleeing the scene. Police described the suspects as two Black males dressed in black with ski masks. They are believed to be connected to multiple other robberies in the area.

On Thursday, Chicago police issued a community alert seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the criminals. The timing of the robbery is significant as it occurred during the DNC, highlighting the city’s struggle with violence despite the high-profile event.

Chicago’s crime rate remains alarming, with the city reporting nearly 1,400 shootings and 344 murders this year. The weekend leading up to the DNC saw 26 shooting incidents, resulting in 30 victims and five deaths. Even as prominent political figures gather in Chicago, the city’s persistent violence continues to loom large.
