Social Security Chief Steps Down As DOGE Exposes Shocking Payment Irregularities

The Social Security Administration is facing a major shakeup after the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) uncovered massive discrepancies in its records. Millions of Social Security numbers are still marked as active for individuals supposedly over 100 years old, some reaching ages as high as 150.

Elon Musk, who leads DOGE’s efforts under President Donald Trump, revealed the findings in an Oval Office press briefing, calling the situation “unbelievable.” He joked that the agency might have discovered a secret group of supercentenarians, but in reality, he suggested, the issue is likely widespread fraud or gross mismanagement.

A 2023 audit by Social Security’s inspector general found that nearly 19 million individuals were still listed as living despite reaching extreme ages. While most were not receiving benefits, the possibility of fraudulent use of these Social Security numbers has raised concerns.

Acting Commissioner Michelle King resigned abruptly after allegedly refusing DOGE’s request for full access to recipient records. The White House has nominated Frank Bisignano to take over the agency as the administration works to address the crisis.

Past investigations into Social Security mismanagement revealed that billions in reported earnings were tied to long-deceased individuals, and thousands of people listed as older than 112 were still actively receiving benefits.

With DOGE now expanding its investigation, Musk says the effort to root out waste and fraud is just beginning. “This is about basic accountability,” he said. “If taxpayers are funding it, they deserve to know where their money is going.”
