In Verona, Virginia, Robbin Johnson has turned her own experiences with hardship into a mission of giving back. Her annual event, Christmas Palooza, has become a beacon of hope for families ensuring that children have gifts to open during the holidays.
As a mother of three, Johnson knows firsthand how difficult the holidays can be. “I know how it is, and I still need help from time to time,” she said. “But I just wanted to help the people that need it.” For the past two years, she has collected toys to ensure that children in her community have a reason to smile on Christmas morning.

This year’s Christmas Palooza exceeded all expectations, helping 31 families. With support from her church and pastor, Melinda Gartzke, Johnson was able to make the holidays brighter for dozens of children. “It’s amazing to see what one person or one small church can accomplish,” Gartzke said.
Johnson’s daughter, Angel, expressed pride in her mother’s growing initiative. “At first, she thought it would just be a few people getting gifts, but it turned into something so much bigger,” Angel said.
Families benefiting from the program expressed gratitude, as many had to choose between essential expenses and holiday gifts. “Most of these families were focusing on living expenses, and Christmas gifts weren’t even an option,” Gartzke explained.
Johnson hopes to grow Christmas Palooza in the coming years, continuing her mission to bring joy to families in need. “It feels good to see the smiles on children’s faces,” she said, reflecting on the power of community and generosity.
