Sen. Vance Accuses DA Bragg Of Targeting Trump For Running In 2024 Failing To Specify Crimes

Senator JD Vance (R-OH) claimed on Sunday that New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg only charged former President Donald Trump because of his 2024 presidential campaign suggesting that Bragg has failed to clearly identify any specific crimes committed by Trump. In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” Vance argued that Trump is being treated differently due to his political ambitions.

“The only thing Alvin Bragg the New York prosecutors team thinks that Donald Trump did wrong is he ran for president in 2024 and he looks to be on the cusp of victory” Vance told host Dana Bash. He contended that prosecutors “can’t even identify what it is that Donald Trump did” and have only alleged “a paperwork violation in service to a crime” without specifying the actual crime.

Vance further suggested that the charges against Trump are a distraction from President Joe Biden’s record in office which he characterized as a failure. The former president was indicted in New York City for allegedly falsifying business records a case that Trump has long denounced as a politically motivated “scam.”

Last month on Truth Social Trump called the trial a “planned and coordinated witch hunt” that could have been brought years ago but was instead timed to interfere with his presidential campaign. He accused prosecutors of waiting to bring charges “right in the middle of my presidential campaign against the worst and most incompetent president ever crooked Joe Biden.”

Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen who allegedly paid adult film star Stormy Daniels $130,000 out of his own pocket in 2016 is expected to testify in the trial this week. A letter obtained last year stated that “neither the Trump Organization nor the Trump campaign was a party to the transaction with Ms. Clifford and neither reimbursed Mr. Cohen for the payment directly or indirectly.
