Seattle Police Prevent Election Night Antifa Riot, Make Several Arrests

On Election Night, Seattle police thwarted a planned Antifa demonstration near the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) area, arresting several individuals on criminal charges and effectively shutting down plans for a disruptive protest. The arrests were made in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, where Antifa militants gathered dressed in black bloc gear, equipped with helmets, gas masks, and other protective items. Police maintained a strong presence, ensuring the event remained lawful.

Antifa protesters arrived around 6 p.m. at Cal Anderson Park, allegedly committing acts of property damage, including graffiti with pro-Palestinian messages and the anarchist symbol. Seattle police responded by trailing the group as they began marching, with officers issuing repeated warnings over an LRAD speaker, emphasizing respect for First Amendment rights but condemning any criminal behavior.

Officers made initial arrests near the Seattle Police Department’s East Precinct as protesters refused orders to clear the road. According to police, the first group arrested had been involved in damaging property at Cal Anderson Park. Tensions escalated as protesters ignored further commands to remain off the streets, prompting police to make additional arrests.

Following the first arrests, the crowd regrouped and continued along 13th Avenue and Pine Street, where more property damage was reported. Seattle police issued further warnings, emphasizing their intent to maintain safety while respecting peaceful demonstration rights. When protesters hurled threats at officers, police responded by making another targeted arrest.

As the group’s numbers dwindled from 30 to about a dozen, the remaining members returned to Cal Anderson Park and chose to disperse around 7:30 p.m., ending the night without further incidents.
