Nikki Haley Attacks Trump On Border

Former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley (R) said on CNN’s “State of The Union” Sunday that former President Donald Trump is “absolutely” playing politics with U.S. border and immigration policy due to his public disapproval of a bill that, according to most reports, has almost no chance of passing in the House.

CNN anchor Dana Bash asked Haley about the president’s opposition to a U.S. border deal by Senate leadership: “Donald Trump, as you know, is pushing Republican Senators to oppose the deal in part because he wants to run on the issue in 2024 in this election year. You call that a mistake. Are you saying the former president is playing politics with the border?”

“I think nobody should be playing politics with the border,” Haley replied. “He shouldn’t be getting involved telling Republicans to wait until the election because we don’t want this to help Biden win. We can’t wait one more day. You have millions of people who have come to that border. They are not being vetted.”

Then the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations under Trump’s administration suggested there could be a national security danger to Americans from the broken border under President Joe Biden’s watch, “America is acting like it’s September 10. It only takes one. This is not a time to play politics.”

Bash asked, “Is he?”

“Of course he is,” Haley answered. “He is absolutely playing politics by telling them not to do anything. What I think they need to do is they have to put a tough immigration law in place.”

A week ago, Trump said, “Please blame it on me,” if the border bill fails in the Senate. “There is zero chance I will support this horrible open borders betrayal,” he said in Las Vegas while appearing at a campaign event to drive caucus turnout.

“I’ll fight it all the way. A lot of the senators are trying to say, respectfully, they’re blaming it on me,” the former president said. “I say, that’s OK. Please blame it on me. Please.”

Trump called the deal a “disaster” and “horrific” in a post to Truth Social the following Monday, “They are using this horrific Senate Bill as a way of being able to put the BORDER DISASTER onto the shoulders of the Republicans. The Democrats BROKE THE BORDER, they should fix it.”
