Nigerian Rights Group Warns Christianity And Freedom Of Worship May Die In Nigeria

The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) a Nigerian rights group has raised the alarm that Christianity Judaism and traditional religions may disappear in Nigeria or any part thereof in the next 50 years.

The group made this claim in a statement released on Monday, April 29, 2024.

Intersociety alleged that more than 8,200 Christians were killed in Nigeria between January 2023 and January 2024 and over 8,000 were abducted. The group stated that apart from grave existential threats to freedom of religion in Nigeria it has also observed that over 80% of Christian leaders are hypocrites and fakers who are no longer true defenders of the faith.

The group blamed the ordeal of Nigerian Christians on faith leaders who have abandoned the defense of faith for the defense of stomach by allowing the quest for materialism and personal aggrandizement to dominate their supposedly divine calling.

Intersociety said the International Freedom of Religion or Worship also known as First Freedom is facing a serious threat of extinction by violent and intolerant state and non-state actors in Nigeria.

The rights group further alleged that in the first four months of 2024 the number of Christians killed and abducted has risen to an estimated 800 and 1,000 respectively with Benue Plateau and Southern Kaduna remaining the worst-hit states since June 2015.
