Despite its so-called “sanctuary” status, New York City has proven to be incapable of handling the influx of undocumented migrants brought about by the Biden administration’s refusal to secure the nation’s southern border.
While Democratic Mayor Eric Adams and Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul have traded blame for the crisis, ordinary New Yorkers are left to navigate the urban wasteland that has emerged as thousands of migrants flood into the nation’s most populous city.
Stories have emerged in recent months about individuals sleeping on the sidewalk outside overcrowded hotels and students being ejected from their high school in order to transform the building into a makeshift migrant shelter.
Recent anecdotes reflect another troubling trend associated with the growing migrant population across the Big Apple — particularly within the city’s East Village communities.
As numerous migrants awaited free accommodations over the weekend, a line outside of one facility became so long that the crowd soon began to overtake nearby Tompkins Square Park. Before long, a layer of human waste began to form on the ground, and city workers had to remove the portable toilets that had been placed in the area because they had become so filthy that they were no longer fit for use.

The area has not only become an eyesore for many locals but could emerge as a public health hazard due to the amount of feces and urine discarded in public areas.
John Cashvan, who works as a street cleaner in the area, shared his reaction after finding one such disgusting deposit.
“There was a cup of what I thought was somebody’s discarded hot chocolate that turned out to be not hot chocolate,” he said.
Although the recent cold weather has kept the noxious odors to a minimum, Cashvan noted that whenever it starts to get warmer, the entire area begins to reek of a dirty bathroom.
Some locals have attempted to address the area’s devolution on their own, but police say that resulted in serious injuries for one 66-year-old man who confronted an individual in the act of urinating on a parked car. The suspect allegedly pulled out a box cutter and sliced the victim’s neck.
