Migrants Self-Deporting Ahead Of Trump’s Immigration Crackdown

With President-elect Donald Trump set to retake office in less than two months, reports suggest illegal immigrants in Mexico are already self-deporting out of fear of tougher immigration policies. Mexican officials confirmed that up to 100 migrants have requested voluntary return to their home countries, citing Trump’s plans to reinstate stricter border enforcement.

These individuals are either paying their travel costs or seeking assistance from the Mexican government. Trump’s promise to dismantle lenient immigration measures, such as the “CBP One” app, is a major factor. The app has allowed migrants to apply for asylum digitally, bypassing court appearances and expediting approvals.

The Trump administration plans to reinstate the “Remain in Mexico” policy, which was effective during his first term. This policy requires asylum seekers to remain in Mexico while their applications are processed, reducing fraudulent claims and discouraging illegal crossings.

Migrants awaiting entry have expressed distress. “I cry every day and ask God to take me back,” one individual shared. Another added, “If I don’t get the appointment, I will go back.”

The administration’s plans also include targeting cartels that facilitate illegal immigration. Incoming Border Czar Tom Homan emphasized Trump’s commitment to designating cartels as terrorist organizations. “They’ve killed more Americans than every terrorist group combined,” Homan said, outlining a strategy involving U.S. Special Operations forces.

Trump’s impending return to the White House is already reshaping migration patterns, with illegal immigrants reconsidering their attempts to cross and some choosing to return home before the new policies take effect.
