Letitia James Says She May Seize Trump’s Assets

New York Attorney General Letitia James recently warned that she would seize former President Donald Trump’s assets if the former president cannot pay the $355 million ordered by New York Judge Arthur Engoron in the civil fraud case she brought against him.

“If he does not have funds to pay off the judgment, then we will seek judgment enforcement mechanisms in court, and we will ask the judge to seize his assets,” James told ABC News host Aaron Katersky.

Engoron recently ruled that Trump must pay $355 million and prohibited the former president from conducting business in New York until 2027. Trump has pledged to appeal the decision.

James said that even if Trump decides to appeal, she remains “very confident” that her case would prevail, adding that her office would not hesitate to strip the former president of his assets if he cannot pay the figure ordered by Engoron. She named Trump’s 40 Wall Street skyscraper, renamed the Trump Building, one of the buildings she’d seize.

“We are prepared to make sure that the judgment is paid to New Yorkers, and yes, I will get 40 Wall Street each and every day,” James said.

James’ lawsuit against the former president alleged that he deceived banks into inflating his net worth and business value to try and obtain more favorable loans. Trump has dismissed such claims, having repeatedly pointed out paying back the loans.

For every month that Trump fails to pay the $355 million, he racks up $2.6 million, according to Business Insider.

The former president slammed Engoron’s ruling and called James “Corrupt.” He has claimed that such legal efforts are the left’s attempts to interfere in the 2024 presidential election.

“A Crooked New York State Judge, working with a totally Corrupt Attorney General who ran on the basis of ‘I will get Trump,’ before knowing anything about me or my company, has just fined me $355 Million based on nothing other than having built a GREAT COMPANY. ELECTION INTERFERENCE. WITCH HUNT,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Trump also attacked the justice system in New York, saying it is being taken over “by partisan, deluded, biased Judges and Prosecutors.”
