Lavrov: Biden’s Policies Bringing US And Russia Close To ‘Direct Military Conflict’

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned in an interview with Turkish media that the United States and Russia are on the verge of “direct military conflict” due to President Joe Biden’s policies. Lavrov’s statements, published Friday in Turkey’s Hurriyet Daily, reflect Moscow’s growing frustration with Washington’s handling of U.S.-Russia relations.

Lavrov attributed this increased tension to Biden’s “Russophobia,” suggesting that the Biden administration has pushed anti-Russian sentiment to a new level, one he believes could lead to an open conflict. “Under the current president… our countries are on the brink of direct military conflict,” Lavrov stated, according to the Business Recorder.

Asked about Russia’s stance on the upcoming U.S. election, Lavrov said Moscow does not favor one candidate over another. He noted that the Trump administration, despite some expectations, had imposed more sanctions on Russia than any prior U.S. government, which makes Moscow skeptical of any shift in Washington’s stance.

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed a similar sentiment with sarcasm, suggesting in September that Biden had been his preferred choice, but added that he would “support” Kamala Harris, Biden’s recommended successor. Putin’s comments came with a jab at Harris, referencing her laugh as a sign that “she’s doing well.”

Lavrov’s remarks highlight how Biden’s approach to Russia may have intensified geopolitical tensions to a dangerous level. As the election approaches, Moscow’s position remains one of skepticism toward any potential improvement in relations.
