Kamala Harris Could Shake Up California Politics With Gubernatorial Bid

Vice President Kamala Harris is considering a run for governor of California, according to recent reports, and she already has a significant lead in early polls. The prospect of a Harris campaign in 2026 presidential hopeful Gov. Gavin Newsom in a good position to be confident that California will maintain its leftist insanity should he pursue a potential presidential bid in 2028.

A survey by the UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies found Harris leading the pack, with nearly half of California voters expressing support for her in a hypothetical gubernatorial race. Among Democrats, Harris commands overwhelming approval, with 72% indicating they would back her candidacy.

California’s deep-blue electorate gives Harris a strong base to draw from. Both Newsom and Kamala are leaders known for their progressive platforms, and a campaign by Kamala, should she decide to run, would likely attract a strong turnout for the notoriously liberal state.

Harris’s political history in California, however, is not without its pitfalls. She has faced allegations of ethical lapses during her time as district attorney and Attorney General. Critics have pointed to her relationship with former Assembly Speaker Willie Brown and her decision to drop a fraud investigation into Herbalife after a donation from a politically connected lobbyist.

Mark DiCamillo, the poll’s director, highlighted Harris’s unique advantage in California politics: her universal name recognition. “None of the other candidates are as well known to the voting public,” he explained, suggesting that her visibility could carry her far despite past controversies.
