Tom Homan, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for border czar, has called on Congress to fund a large-scale deportation effort. Speaking during an interview on CNN, Homan outlined his request for at least 100,000 beds and significant resources to carry out the initiative.
“We need Congress to give us some money to get this done,” Homan said, adding that the operation would require expanded detention capacity and transportation contracts. While the full cost remains uncertain, Homan estimated the initiative could cost $86 billion.

Homan argued that Trump’s election demonstrated voter support for stricter immigration policies. He emphasized the urgency of Congressional funding, stating, “The more deportation officers I have, the more migrants we can detain and deport.”
The plan includes using ICE offices to enforce immigration laws nationwide, starting on Trump’s first day in office. Homan also proposed using military aircraft to deport migrants but clarified that the military would not participate in arrests.

Homan said the operation would target as many undocumented migrants as possible, noting that the initiative aims to reduce federal assistance costs. Trump has promised to hold foreign governments accountable for accepting deportees, threatening to cut economic ties with uncooperative nations.
Tom Homan said the operation will also require funding from Congress.
