Hawley Criticizes Secret Service Director, Demands Public Testimony After Assassination Attempt

During a recent appearance on Fox News’ “Your World,” Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) expressed strong dissatisfaction with Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle’s preparedness in a briefing about the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump. Hawley called for Cheatle to publicly testify before the Senate Homeland Security Committee.

Hawley described the behind-the-scenes briefing as inadequate, stating that Cheatle was “not well-prepared” to answer questions. “The Secret Service and FBI are holding these secret calls where they limit questions and don’t really provide answers,” Hawley said. “She was present but didn’t do much briefing. When she did try to answer, it did not go well.”

The senator emphasized the need for public hearings and a thorough investigation into the security lapses. He highlighted a critical 62-minute window between the identification of the shooter as a person of interest and the moment he began firing at Trump. “We have got to find out what in the world is going on,” Hawley insisted.

Host Neil Cavuto noted that Cheatle has no plans to resign unless directed by President Biden or Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Hawley criticized the administration’s lack of accountability, comparing it to the handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal. “Nobody in this administration ever takes responsibility for anything,” he said.

Hawley stressed the severity of the situation, pointing out that a bystander was killed and others injured. “These people ought to be gone. The director ought to be gone. The whole top echelon ought to be gone,” he declared. “We’re going to get to the bottom of this and figure out how this happened.”
