In a dramatic turn of events, a 66-year-old Florida man, Robert Polk, managed to fend off a would-be carjacker early Thursday morning, leaving the would-be thief battered and subdued. The altercation took place when Polk heard noises outside his home and found 29-year-old Blake Robinson attempting to break into his vehicle.
Polk promptly called 911 and confronted Robinson. What followed was a physical struggle, with Robinson initially gaining the upper hand by knocking Polk to the ground and kicking him in the head. However, Polk quickly recovered and fought back, ultimately overpowering Robinson.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office lauded Polk’s bravery in a Facebook post, celebrating the homeowner’s successful defense. “Welcome to Brevard County, where we proudly support… ‘Play stupid games…win stupid prizes,'” the post declared. Robinson was arrested at the scene, bloodied and struggling to stand after his encounter with Polk.
Sheriff Wayne Ivey highlighted the situation’s irony. “That’s right Mr. Tough Guy, Robinson, got manhandled by a 66-year-old man who thankfully only required brief medical treatment and was left without any serious injuries!” the sheriff’s office reported.
Robinson, who needed medical attention before being transported to jail, faces charges of burglary of an unoccupied conveyance and felony battery on a person over 65. He was booked into the Brevard County Jail with a $30,000 bond.
Ivey underscored the additional charge Robinson earned for assaulting someone over 65. “He got an enhanced charge for hitting someone over the age of 65 who ended up whooping his punk butt!” Ivey added, “As we like to say here in Brevard County, ‘Mess Around and Find Out!'”
Polk, who sustained minor injuries, proved that age is no barrier to defending oneself and one’s property. The incident is a powerful reminder of the risks criminals take when they target unsuspecting victims, and the potential for those victims to fight back with unexpected resolve and strength.
