Florida Man Arrested For Alleged Plot To Bomb NYSE In Anti-Government Scheme

A Florida man has been arrested for allegedly planning to bomb the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in a violent attempt to “reboot” the U.S. government. Harun Abdul-Malik Yener, 29, faces federal charges for attempting to use an improvised explosive device (IED) to destroy a building used in interstate or foreign commerce, according to the criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

The investigation into Yener began in February after authorities received a tip about bomb-making materials stored in a unit in Coral Springs, Florida. Following a search warrant, the FBI discovered bomb-making schematics, timers, circuit boards, and other materials that could be used in explosive devices. Yener’s online history revealed he had searched for bomb-making techniques as early as 2017.

In a bid to gather more information, the FBI set up a meeting with Yener through an undercover agent posing as a member of a militia group. During their conversations, Yener reportedly outlined his plan to detonate a bomb at the NYSE on November 18. He even recorded a message to be sent to the media following the attack, justifying his actions as part of his quest to challenge the U.S. government.

In the recorded message, Yener allegedly compared himself to Osama bin Laden, declaring, “Our war is with the government,” and calling for others to join his violent cause. He also issued threats against anyone opposing his views, claiming that they would face brutal retribution. “If you speak ill of us, we will chop out your tongue,” Yener reportedly said.

Yener’s extremist views were further revealed through his history of interactions with radical groups. In 2015, he claimed that ISIS attempted to recruit him, but he declined their offer. Yener also showed an interest in joining domestic extremist groups like the Boogaloo Boys, but was rejected due to his desire for martyrdom.

This arrest sheds light on the growing issue of domestic extremism within the U.S. The FBI’s investigation highlights the danger posed by individuals radicalized within the country and the need for heightened vigilance in preventing violent acts of terrorism. Yener’s case is yet another reminder of the importance of addressing radical ideologies before they result in violent consequences.
