In a tragic incident in Albuquerque, New Mexico, a 21-year-old illegal alien has been charged with causing a fatal car crash while driving under the influence. The crash occurred just after midnight on Monday when Jesus Sandoval-Martinez ran a red light in his black 2008 Dodge pickup, colliding with two other vehicles, a Tesla and a Corolla.
The driver of the Corolla, 22-year-old Tiger Gutierrez, was transported to a hospital where he later died from his injuries. The other driver, Mia Montoya, sustained critical injuries, while a third person involved in the crash suffered minor injuries.
Witnesses reported that Sandoval-Martinez appeared impaired, slurring his speech, and police found open alcohol containers in his vehicle. After the crash, Sandoval-Martinez attempted to flee the scene but was detained by witnesses until law enforcement arrived. He failed sobriety tests and did not have a driver’s license. At the University of New Mexico Hospital, he admitted to having consumed two beers that evening.
Sandoval-Martinez has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, reckless driving, and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in great bodily harm or death. He is currently held at the Bernalillo County jail. ICE confirmed that Sandoval-Martinez is in the country illegally and issued an immigration detainer for him. He had no prior encounters with immigration authorities and is reportedly from Mexico.
Both victims were volleyball coaches, as confirmed by the E3 Volleyball program on Instagram. This tragic incident highlights the ongoing issue of illegal alien crime, which has become a significant topic in the 2024 presidential campaign. Former President Donald Trump has criticized current President Joe Biden’s border policies, blaming them for the surge in illegal crossings and associated violent crimes. A recent poll indicates that a majority of Americans view illegal alien crime as a top issue in the campaign, with many blaming Democrats for easing border restrictions.
