Conservative Backlash Against Harley-Davidson Over ‘Woke’ Policies

Harley-Davidson is facing calls for a boycott from conservative circles, particularly from online influencer Robby Starbuck. The controversy stems from the company’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, including an LGBT boot camp and sponsoring Pride events. Starbuck argues that these policies do not reflect the values of Harley’s traditional biker customer base. He claims the company is pushing an agenda contrary to its core customers’ beliefs, highlighting CEO Jochen Zeitz’s commitment to environmental and social governance (ESG) policies as further evidence.

In his critique, Starbuck pointed out that Harley-Davidson has subjected its employees to DEI training and has been heavily involved in promoting LGBT rights. He also noted the company’s goal to make all its motorcycles electric by 2030, suggesting that these initiatives are a betrayal of the brand’s heritage. According to Starbuck, these actions are alienating Harley-Davidson’s loyal customer base, who may now feel disconnected from the brand.

Starbuck’s call for a boycott is part of a larger conservative push against companies they believe are adopting “woke” policies. He previously led successful campaigns against John Deere and Tractor Supply, forcing them to roll back their DEI initiatives. This latest campaign aims to pressure Harley-Davidson into reconsidering its stance on social issues and returning to its traditional roots.

Harley-Davidson has not yet responded to the boycott call. The company’s recent efforts to promote diversity and inclusion are part of a broader corporate trend towards ESG and DEI policies. However, the backlash from conservative customers raises questions about the balance between corporate social responsibility and maintaining brand loyalty.
