Chip Roy Leads GOP Effort To Repeal FACE Act Targeting Pro-Lifers

Rep. Chip Roy of Texas, backed by 25 Republican lawmakers, has reintroduced legislation aimed at repealing the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act. Roy argues the law has been misused by the Biden administration to target peaceful pro-life Americans.

The FACE Act, passed in 1994, was designed to prevent disruptions at abortion facilities. However, Roy contends that the Biden administration has used it unfairly to prosecute pro-life activists while ignoring violence against pro-life organizations. According to data Roy obtained, 97% of FACE Act cases from 1994 to 2024 were brought against pro-lifers.

Roy emphasized that now, with Republican control of Congress and the White House, lawmakers have a duty to eliminate laws that have been weaponized against pro-life supporters. He urged his colleagues to act quickly to ensure such prosecutions do not happen in the future.

Sen. Mike Lee of Utah is expected to introduce a similar measure in the Senate. Lee has long criticized the FACE Act, arguing it was unconstitutional and has been selectively enforced to silence those with pro-life views.

Conservative organizations such as Students for Life Action and the Thomas More Society have voiced support for the repeal, citing concerns about government overreach and the suppression of free speech. They argue that the law’s original purpose no longer applies after the Supreme Court’s Dobbs v. Jackson ruling in 2022.

Among those backing the bill are Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Andy Biggs of Arizona and Burgess Owens of Utah. Supporters argue that repealing the law is necessary to protect the rights of those peacefully advocating for the unborn.
