Two men were caught attempting to smuggle drugs and tobacco into a Louisiana federal prison using a high-powered air cannon, according to law enforcement officials.
Jose Francisco Herrera Munoz, 18, and Angel Gonzales Gutierrez, 19, both from Colorado, were arrested outside the Federal Correctional Complex in Pollock. Authorities say the pair was planning to fire $112,000 in tobacco and $89,500 in methamphetamine over the prison fence.

The compressed-air cannon they were carrying is similar to those used at sports events to launch T-shirts into crowds. The device is capable of sending objects more than 350 feet, which would have easily allowed the contraband to reach inmates inside the prison yard.
Law enforcement had been investigating the smuggling attempt prior to the arrests. Grant Parish Sheriff’s deputies moved in and caught the two men in possession of the air cannon and the illegal substances before they could launch the packages.
One of them is an illegal immigrant. This is the type of criminal that Colorado Democrats give sanctuary in Colorado?#copolitics

Both suspects have been charged with attempting to introduce contraband into a penal institution and attempting to distribute methamphetamine. Munoz is also facing immigration-related consequences, as ICE has placed a detainer on him due to his illegal status in the country.
The arrests come as FCI Pollock, a high-security facility housing 870 inmates, has indefinitely halted all inmate visitations.
